"We came, we saw, we loved it!  Both cottage and this beautiful area conquered our hearts. Wordsworth's influence still lives on - we will return!"   (guestbook comment)

Kirkbrae Cottage is a traditional terraced cottage situated in Cockermouth, a lively market town in the northern Lake District.

Built around 1730, the cottage is located in Kirkgate, one of the original streets of the town, and still lined by small Georgian town-houses.

Although appearing small from the outside, the cottage is spacious, being made up of what were originally two separate houses joined together. It sleeps six comfortably in 3 bedrooms, with 2 bathrooms, a large kitchen/dining room and a comfortable lounge with the original open fireplace.  The cottage has recently been renovated, and now combines modern comfort with traditional character and charm.  Click here to take the cottage tour.

Fronted by a listed cobbled forecourt with horse chestnut trees, it overlooks All Saints Parish Church and sits opposite the Swan Inn.  A short walk through the leafy churchyard, or by footbridge over the river Cocker (bring bread to feed the ducks) takes you to the shops of the town centre.

The town makes a perfect base for exploring the northern part of the National Park, with the Lorton Valley, the Buttermere Fells, Crummock Water, Ullswater and the Keswick area all within easy driving distance (see local area links).

For cyclists, the town is linked to the West Cumbria Cycle Network  - a 72 mile network of cycle routes .
